Our School

Shining Rock Lower School

Shining Rock Lower School offers hands-on experiential learning for grades K-5. Specials for elementary age students include technology, music, art, and PE. Our teachers provide engaging experiences and make learning fun in and out of the classroom.

Our elementary students are offered a rich, rigorous curriculum that is complemented by creative hands-on learning and field work to locations such as the Nature Center or the Asheville Museum of Science. Reading and math classes follow NC state standards. The Core Knowledge curriculum enhances our science and social studies instruction and helps provide a robust and rigorous knowledge-based education.

"The Shining Rock teachers are caring and loving. I learn better here than at any other school I've ever been to." - Jacob 5th

Shining Rock Middle School

The Middle School offers a full selection of challenging course work to enlighten and engage students.  In addition to the core classes of English, math, science, and social studies, we offer exciting electives including forensics, strings, fiber arts and STEAM for our middle school students. Moreover, high school credit courses in math, English, and science are offered for 8th graders. The interactive nature of our classes serves to bring a strong sense of community for our students as they grow through middle school and progress on to high school.

Shining Rock middle schoolers  also have opportunities in athletics to compete on a level that is appropriate for them. We excel in cross country where the 2021 team placed 2nd in our conference. Our basketball teams and soccer teams also enjoy competitive games and success. Coupled with clubs such as yearbook and student council, we offer a variety of interests for students.

"You are treated with more respect here and I like the activities in middle school." - Logan 7th

Shining Rock High School

In the fall of 2021, SRCA expanded to enroll our first freshman class. Our expanded high school course of study offers rigorous course work in both honors and standard classes for math, English, history, and the sciences, as well as Spanish. AP courses are offered in English and History as well. In addition electives such as Sports & Event Marketing, Appalachian History, Bio-Tech, and Visual Arts offer a well-rounded education. A 1:15 teacher to student ratio provides our high schoolers with a real sense of community and connection.

Through the local Haywood Community College, we offer qualifying students the opportunity to complete both CTE (career and technical education) and college level coursework. In addition, we partner with the North Carolina School of Science and Math to offer engaging virtual courses on a variety of topics such as computer science, global health, and computer design for video games. We are proud to offer an individualized education which helps each student reach his or her own potential.

The Shining Rock High School is located at 1023 Dellwood Road, Waynesville NC and serves grades 9-12.
