Elementary School (Grades K-5)
Building Strong Foundations for Lifelong Learning
At Shining Rock Classical Academy, our Elementary School program serves students in Kindergarten through 5th grade by building a strong academic foundation rooted in classical education. As a tuition-free public charter school, we combine rigorous academics with character development, helping students become confident learners, critical thinkers, and responsible citizens. Every day, our students are encouraged to develop curiosity, perseverance, and a lifelong love of learning.
Our classical approach emphasizes proven, time-tested teaching methods that help children master essential knowledge and skills. As a low-tech learning environment, elementary students spend less time on screens and more time developing strong reading, writing, and mathematical abilities through textbooks, handwriting, discussion, and direct teacher instruction. This traditional approach allows students to build focus, strengthen communication skills, and develop a deep understanding of core subjects.
Learning extends beyond the classroom through experiential education, an important part of the Shining Rock experience. Students participate in hands-on projects, outdoor learning opportunities, service activities, and real-world experiences that reinforce classroom lessons while encouraging creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. These meaningful experiences help students connect what they learn to the world around them.
Just as important as academic achievement is the development of character. Guided by our core values of Integrity, Respect, Compassion, Responsibility, Wisdom, and Leadership, our elementary students learn the importance of kindness, accountability, and serving others. In our close-knit school community, every child is known, supported, and encouraged to reach their full potential.
At Shining Rock Classical Academy Elementary School, we believe that a strong educational foundation prepares students not only for middle school, but for a lifetime of learning, leadership, and success.
